San José, March 18 (EFE).- Goalkeeper Keylor Navas, midfielder Bryan Ruiz and striker Joel Campbell will lead Costa Rica in the last three days of the qualifier for the Qatar 2022 World Cup against Canada, El Salvador and the United States .
The coach of Costa Rica, the Colombian Luis Fernando Suárez, disclosed this Friday the list of 27 soccer players with whom he will face the last and decisive days of the octagonal Concacaf qualifying final.
French PSG goalkeeper Keylor Navas heads the list, which also includes midfielder Celso Borges, ’10’ Bryan Ruiz and Mexican Monterrey striker Joel Campbell, all seeking to qualify for their third World Cup in a row.
The list is made up of 7 soccer players who play in international leagues and 20 from the local league. The latter have trained the last week under the command of Suárez in a “microcycle” of work agreed by the teams of the first division that decided to suspend the local championship to give space to the selection.
The coach stated that Costa Rica’s goal is to get the 9 points in dispute in the home games against Canada (March 24) and the United States (March 30), and away to El Salvador (March 27).
“We have to do a lot of things to get 9 out of 9 points and qualify for the World Cup in Qatar. We are aware that not only our results will help, we have to count on the results of Panama and the others,” Suárez said at a press conference.
The coach stressed that the space that the clubs have given to the national team’s training has served for Costa Rica to establish itself as a team and for it to get 10 of the last 12 points in the tie that allowed it to get into the fight for the qualifying after a poor start.
After 11 games played, Canada is the leader of the tie with 25 points, followed by the United States (21), Mexico (21), Panama (17), Costa Rica (16), El Salvador (9), Jamaica (7). and Honduras (3).
The octagonal awards three direct tickets to the 2022 Qatar World Cup and a playoff against a rival from Oceania.
