Alexei Navalny will soon be transferred to an isolation cell. The Russian opposition leader reports this X. This so-called EPKT cell falls under the strictest regime within the Russian prison system. Navalny is transferred to a prison near the eastern Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk. Russian investigative journalists from website The Insider report that prisoners are being held there tortured.

Yesterday, Navalny’s appeal was rejected. He was sentenced to nineteen years in prison in a heavily guarded penal colony. The Russian was charged with “creating an extremist movement”. The transfer to solitary confinement in the EPKT cell will certainly be for a year, he writes.

“I feel like a tired rock star on the verge of depression, who has reached the top of the charts and has nothing left to strive for,” Navalny wrote.

The Russian has already served an 11.5-year sentence for various charges and will theoretically only be released in 2051 with the latest conviction. In that year, President Putin’s biggest and most prominent critic turns 75.
