Navalny with a new accusation from the Kremlin

The indictment is aimed at the Anti-Corruption Fund, an opposition-linked NGO. According to the Investigative Committee in Russia, the NGO violated the personality and rights of citizens and forced them to commit illegal acts.

Ivan Zhdanov and Leonid Volkov, part of the board together with Alexei Navalny, were also charged.

The news was announced by Novosti and comes weeks before the parliamentary elections in September.

It is believed that the accused organized the distribution of the Fund’s website, as well as their personal pages on social networks, on behalf of the organization headed by them, calls for participation of Russian citizens in rallies not allowed by the authorities in January this year. Navalny knew in advance that these actions had not been coordinated and that they were illegal due to the restrictions in force.

The indictment comes less than 24 hours after the organization was finally declared an extremist by the court.

To date, Navalny is in prison and has served less than six months out of a total of two and a half years. He is being held in the Pokrov penal colony, considered one of the harshest in Russia.
