MOSCOW (Reuters) – Alexei Navalny, a 44-year-old opposition leader who was a vocal critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison. In another case, the court ruled that parole had been violated.
Navalny, who survived a chemical attack on his head, returned to Russia on the 17th of last month after five months of treatment in Germany. He was arrested shortly after landing. The court ruling comes amid widespread protests across Russia demanding Navalny’s release.
