Russian dissident Alexej Navalny has published a photo of himself on a staircase in Berlin’s Charite Hospital, where he is being treated for serious poisoning. In a message on Instagram, the 44-year-old opponent thanked the hospital’s ‘brilliant doctors’.

Until recently, Navalny had problems recognizing people and talking. “That drove me to despair because I actually understood what the doctor wanted, but I didn’t know where to get the words.”
According to his own account, Navalny still expects a long way to recovery. The phone feels like a stone in my hand, he wrote. ‘And pouring myself water is a real show.’
The post received over 200,000 likes within minutes.
Navalny has been treated since August 22 at the Charité hospital in Berlin for the consequences of a novichok nerve poison poisoning. He was in an artificial coma for weeks.
