Naval Officer Mistakenly Eats Flower-Planting ‘Bombs’ From Easter Gift

Naval officer John Lapré received a package in the mail yesterday. It turned out to be an Easter present from his employer with nine balls in it. Included was a card thanking Marines for their loyalty and efforts.

“I opened the box and put it on the table, with the card there, so that my husband could read it,” Lapré tells Editie NL. “A little later I was sitting on the couch and suddenly saw my husband hanging over the trash can while he was spitting out those balls. He said: ‘Wow, what are these things?’ He really hated them.”

What his partner didn’t know yet was that he was eating balls of clay, soil and seeds. You don’t have to plant these so-called ‘flower bombs’, but place them on top of the soil. A little watering or rain should be enough to get flowers to grow out of it. “That was just not clear, because there was no description of what it was. There was nothing on the box either.”

He’s not the only one who got it wrong. So is Twitterer Edith, whose husband received the same package. “Some kind of clay balls. We thought we could eat it, but no. What are they? No description. Any ideas?”

Apparently the Royal Navy also discovered that the description was missing. “They sent another email about it,” says John Lapré. He reads: “To my regret, the manufacturer has not included the instructions for use.” There was also an appendix with a detailed explanation of the bulbs.

Lapré had to laugh hard at his man’s action. “He rinsed his mouth quite a bit himself.”
