The numbers speak for themselves: since 2019, The Portuguese Way is the second most chosen itinerary to make the pilgrimage to Santiago, with more than 72,000 pilgrims, 20% of whom applied for the Compostela this year. For this reason, the Xunta has reinforced its commitment to this itinerary with an investment of 3.7 million euros since 2015, which will continue in the coming years.
This has been advanced in an interview in Hoy por Hoy Baixo Miño the Director of Tourism of Galicia, Nava castro, which has explained that in the next Master Plan of the Camino de Santiago, which will come into force in 2022, there will be a significant number of items destined to create several rest areas for pilgrims in the middle of nature on the Portuguese Way, both in the traditional and on the coast.
