/ world today news/ On January 24, after the signing of the communiqué on the restoration of diplomatic relations with China, Nauru’s Foreign Minister Lionel Aingimea gave an interview to the China Media Group. In it, he indicated that the decision to sever official ties with Taiwan and renew those with Beijing was made after careful consideration, adding that “China’s hospitality made me feel the country is like an old friend.”
“This is a historic moment that will lead to more vigorous development for Nauru. For us, the state and the people are the most important”, emphasized Aingimea.
In his words, the restoration of diplomatic relations with Beijing and the recognition of the principle of “one China” are not a momentary decision, but the result of careful consideration.
“There are already 183 countries in the world that accept the principle of ‘one China,’ so I believe that this is a clear trend and our decision is on the right side of history,” the foreign minister of the Pacific island country also pointed out.
