Nature reserves take measures because of crowds • Austria catches foreigners in ski resort •

The Austrian police have found 96 foreigners from different European countries in the popular winter sports resort of Sankt Anton. They thus violated the corona rules. They shouldn’t have been allowed into the country and they didn’t stick to the lockdown.

The mayor of St. Anton says that dozens of foreign young people have come to the ski slopes this week. The slopes and ski lifts are open, but hotels in the ski resort are closed.

Young people include Britons, Poles, Swedes, Danes, Romanians, Germans, Irish and even Australians, Tyrol police say. They can expect fines of up to 2180 euros.

Austria has been in lockdown for the third time since December 26. From December 19 to January 10, additional restrictions applied to discourage foreign winter sports enthusiasts: people entering the country had to be quarantined first. People still enter the country via a detour, for work or education as the reason.

In ski instructor courses, which do run for people from all over Europe, there has been a corona outbreak several times.
