A few meters from the Town Hall Square, schools and homes, the Bois-Banal occupies a special place for the inhabitants of Fayl-Billot, since the 16th century.e century with the “Bans”, this seigniorial authorization to take wood to bake bread and heat against the payment of a tax. In the XVIIIe century, the site was laid out as a pre-romantic promenade, which makes it a special place and a real local gem and beyond by its originality. The requalification of this green setting initiated by the town hall and the National Forestry Office constitutes an opportunity for the quality of life of an entire population. It integrates the area between the schools and the woods, into green spaces for games and relaxation with a city park and a large deployment of adapted furniture.
For the sake of communion with nature, the project wants to promote an intergenerational educational dimension to make the living world better known in this ideal forest setting to marvel at and preserve it. To this end, a “Nature discovery trail” will be developed in Bois-Banal, a permanent support supplemented by educational activities for all ages throughout the seasons.
To make concrete progress in the design of this “nature discovery trail”, a working group is being set up and a meeting to present this aspect of the rehabilitation of Bois-Banal will take place on Monday February 6, in the voting room, at 8 p.m., for those who have naturalist expertise or feel concerned to support it, through concrete and voluntary work in the service of nature. On the sidelines of the presentation of the timetable for the development of this nature discovery trail, there will also be a reflection on the future of the old youth hostel which is naturally part of this local jewel.
The complete content of the “Bois-Banal city” project will very soon be available for consultation on the municipality’s website at the address: www.fayl-billot.fr. Preparatory studies are continuing in order to be able to start work before the end of this year. For all information, phone the town hall or 06.62.86.82.00.
