The conservation organization Nature-Avenir has acquired a wetland complex in Ireland.
The property, which was owned by Sarao Producteur Acéricole inc., covers an area of nearly 35 hectares and is located upstream of Lake William. In addition to contributing to the filtration of sediments and water in the Lake William watershed, this project ensures the perpetual conservation of the natural components of the property.
The preservation of natural environments benefits aquatic species in particular, in addition to increasing resilience to climate change and protecting biodiversity.
The director of legal conservation for the Nature-Avenir organization, Karine Labelle, points out that “the conservation of this sector was deemed a priority for the protection of wetlands representative of the Chaudière-Appalaches region, supported by the Conservation Plan natural areas in the Nature-Avenir territory. The partnership developed with local stakeholders will ensure the integrity and development of these ecological riches, while offering a conservation showcase to the population.”
