“Of course my heart is always attached to the community!” Richard Köth has no concrete plans for how he would like to get involved in and around Schwanfeld. Definitely more time, the town hall chief knows, he wants to dedicate to his grandchildren.
At the end of his time as a town councilor and mayor, Richard Köth would have loved to inaugurate the place for young and old on Kembach with a party. The meeting point was ready in time, but the corona pandemic prohibits a celebration with swan fields of all ages at the stream.
Probably the last mayor
For Richard Köth, nature and the environment were important points in his work as mayor. He will probably be the last Schwanfelder who did not hold this position full-time. “It doesn’t work anymore,” says Köth, referring to the many tasks and appointments that you should take on as the first representative of the place.
The volunteer work of many of his fellow citizens has impressed Köth over the years. He is happy about the many voluntary hours worked in organizations such as the fire brigade, but also in the clubs. At the same time, the former mayor fears the growth of “Ich-AGs” in society, which are no longer enthusiastic about common tasks, associations and the preservation of communities.
The village renewal has shaped Köth’s term since 2008 when he was elected mayor for the first time. He helped shape the long way from application to implementation, discussed it with the local councils and planners, and submitted it to the relevant offices and authorities for review. Many smaller projects interlock with village renewal, road construction on many levels; the road to Heiligenthal, the bike paths to the neighboring district of Würzburg or nearby Theilheim and also the forest trails. The place for young and old on Kembach with play facilities for the children, resting places for the old and as a new meeting point for partying has just been completed.
Innovations in the “good room” of the community
At the end of his term of office, the center of the village, where the town hall, church, civic center and the administrative community with Wipfeld can be found, also presents itself with innovations. The offices can be reached with an elevator and barrier-free paths, and the acoustics in the “good parlor of the community”, the citizens’ center, have been improved.
Richard Köth liked to visit the local festivals, was looking forward to meeting the children in kindergarten and school and hopes that the construction measures around day care and school will be successfully implemented. The old municipal council had made the first decisions, and Köth is certain that the newly elected councilors and his successor Lisa Kerin will continue to do so. Köth also loved the mayor’s congratulations. He likes to visit birthday children and jubilant couples, and he was also happy to have the wedding ceremonies, the mayor says in retrospect.
Wind power and ceramic tape
Two things had a great impact on Richard Köth’s term in office: the finds from the era of band ceramics and renewable energies. The Bandkeramik Museum opened its doors around ten years ago (the anniversary is in autumn).
Wind power is particularly important around the village. The construction of the power generators was accompanied by a wind educational trail, Schwanfeld also gains energy from open-space photovoltaics.
Cooperation in the local council was always pleasant to Köth, party or faction politics would never have found a place there. The discussions were conducted in a factual tone – even with different opinions and plans. This underlines the fact that in the 2020 local elections all candidates were found on a single list for the first time, said Köth.
The community ship kept on course
Köth has successfully kept the “Ship Community” on course for twelve years, has been very well connected with the clubs and institutions through his long volunteer work and has initiated major projects that will be implemented in the coming years. Richard Köth did not stand for election in March 2020 after 12 years as the first and another six years as the second mayor.
