TRIBUNJOGJA.COM – One of the health problems that can affect babies and children most is diarrhea.
Quoted from Kompas, referring to information from Kid’s Health, diarrhea is a condition where soft or watery stools occur with high frequency.
Before we learn about actions that can be taken to treat diarrhea in babies and children, it is important to understand several factors that cause it first.
Diarrhea can cause stomach cramps and discomfort for several hours or even days.
However, diarrhea usually improves within a short time after taking the drug.

Apart from using prescription medication, diarrhea can also be treated with home treatment using natural ingredients.
This natural treatment approach can help relieve symptoms and speed up the recovery process.
Quoted from the Maternal and Child Health Book, there are several steps that parents can take to treat diarrhea in babies and children, namely:
1. If your child is still breastfeeding, you should give him as much breast milk as possible.
2. Immediately give about half to a glass of ORS solution every time the child defecates. If ORS is not available, boiled water, clear vegetable broth, or starch water can also be given.
3. Give zinc supplements every day for 10 consecutive days. For children under six months, the dose is half a tablet once a day, while for children aged 6 months to 5 years, the dose is one tablet once a day.
4. Continue to provide complementary breast milk (MPASI) or child food as usual.
5. It is not best to give diarrhea medication to babies or children, unless recommended by a pediatrician or health worker from an authorized health center.
6. After providing first aid as mentioned above, diarrhea will usually heal in a short time. However, keep in mind that this condition can be dangerous if it causes dehydration in children.

7. Make sure to maintain careful hand hygiene, both for parents and children, by washing hands regularly with soap and clean water. This helps avoid transmission of infection.
8. While your child has diarrhea, avoid giving him food or drinks that have the potential to make symptoms worse, such as spicy, fatty foods or caffeinated drinks.
9. Monitor your child for signs of dehydration, such as dry mouth, sunken eyes, not urinating as much, or a decrease in the amount of urine. If significant signs of dehydration occur, consult a doctor immediately.
10. As long as the child still has diarrhea, give him enough rest and avoid strenuous activities. Rest helps a child’s body to recover more quickly
