Natural remedies for sunburn. You can use a number of natural remedies to ease the pain and sting caused by sunburn, but also to speed up the healing process of the skin.
A cold shower
The stinging sensations and hot flashes caused by sunburn can be remedied at least temporarily by a cold shower. You can even take a bath in a tub full of lukewarm water with a glass of apple cider vinegar in it to rebalance your skin’s pH. And lavender (or chamomile) essential oil has a calming effect on the skin, and if you want to get rid of the redness specific to sunburned skin, you can add two cups of baking soda to the bath water.
Aloe vera
Probably the best known, but also the most effective natural ingredient used to treat sunburn, aloe vera moisturizes the skin and accelerates its regeneration.
Compresses with cold milk
Cold milk compresses applied directly to the skin create a protein barrier that helps the skin heal.
Cucumbers
These vegetables contain precious antioxidants for the skin, but they also have pain-relieving properties. Chill the cucumbers in the fridge then put them in the blender to turn them into a paste. Apply the cucumber paste on the sunburned areas and leave it on for around 10 minutes.
Yogurt
The probiotic content of yogurt speeds up the healing of sunburned skin. Choose a full-fat yogurt and leave it on for about 10 minutes, then take a cold shower to wash it off.
Black tea
Black tea is not only tasty, but it is also extremely effective when it comes to reducing the redness of the skin, typical of sunburns. Use cold black tea compresses, straight from the fridge, on sunburned skin. The tannic acid in black tea has a cooling effect on the skin.
Coconut oil
Extremely moisturizing, coconut oil has nourishing qualities that are extremely beneficial for sunburned skin. Apply coconut oil to the burned skin, but after keeping it in the refrigerator, to enjoy a cooling effect as well.
