Natural gas to boost business and economic acceleration in Central Africa

Libreville, Thursday October 24, 2024 (Infos Gabon) – The theme is at the heart of the CABEF international conference in Libreville.

The leaders of the oil and gas sectors of the Central African sub-region and guests have been meeting since Wednesday in Libreville as part of the 4th edition of the Central African Business Energy Forum (CABEF). The theme chosen this year is “Natural gas as a key to business and economic acceleration in Central Africa” through effective sub-regional institutional integration.

To this end, participants will explore, for three days, the economic and energy opportunities of the sub-region, to develop innovative strategies, promote partnerships and promote sustainable development, in a context of an important energy transition for Central Africa. Most notably, they want to complete the construction of the Central African Pipeline System (CAPS).

According to the organizers, the sub-regional pipeline to be built will connect Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and the Republic of Congo before connecting to the Central African Republic, Cameroon and Chad. It is a way to strengthen ties between CEMAC States.

“Our natural gas reserves are not just resources. CAPS is not just an infrastructure project. It is a symbol of our unity, our desire, our unstoppable edge towards a brighter future,” said Nathalie Lum, president of GABEF.

Gabonese economic operators in all these regions are mobilized for this event in Libreville. Their presence is marked both in the stands established and in the workshop work during this international forum.

So it is a good opportunity for Gabon which sees the Minister of Oil earnestly working a charm with several investors for the attractiveness of the sedimentary basin.

“These facilities are a unique opportunity for transformation, entrepreneurship and prosperity for our region. This project shows our determination to work together, to share our resources,” said Marcel Abeké in the presence of the Vice President of the Republic, Joseph Owondault Berre who opened the work with his Prime Minister, Raymond Ndong Sima.

And he said: “If we complete it satisfactorily, we will have established a reliable way to transport gas resources across our borders, and improve access to energy”.
