A tropical depression currently crossing the Kimberley towards the Pilbara coast is now likely to become a strong tropical storm in the coming hours.
Currently, the low is located over Southwest Interior Kimberley. The system is slowly heading south, then it is expected to move west today, then it could cross the east coast of Pilbara and move offshore on Monday.
Destructive winds gusting to 130 kilometers per hour can develop on the Pilbara coast west of Port Hedland if the system follows the coast.
Flood warnings have been issued for the North and West Kimberley Districts and the Fitzroy River.
