Natural catastrophes – Floods in Australia were the most expensive for insurers in the first half of 2022

Floods and storms caused $72 billion in damage worldwide in the first six months of this year.

The Swiss reinsurer Swiss Re announced this in its half-yearly balance sheet. The sum of the damages is below the average of the past ten years – the sum of the insured damages, on the other hand, is above the average. Accordingly, the insurers paid for damages in the amount of 35 billion dollars. The floods in Australia were the costliest natural catastrophe for the insurance industry in the first half of the year.
