NATO’s Steadfast Defender 2024: Largest Military Drill with 90,000 Soldiers

This is reported by the news agencies Reuters and DPA.

The exercise will start next week and last until May.

The scenario would be that Russia carries out an attack against a NATO country and triggers Article 5 of the NATO treaty, according to DPA.

Article 5 states that an attack on one of the member states shall be considered an attack on all.

NATO countries will participate with their soldiers, and Sweden will also participate.

The Turkish Foreign Affairs Committee gave the green light for Swedish NATO membership in Space Christmas. If the National Assembly also gives the thumbs up, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s name withdrawal is the last formal step remaining for admission to the alliance.

“Steadfast Defender 2024” was already announced last year, but then it was stated that the alliance would gather around 40,000 soldiers in Germany, Poland and the three Baltic countries of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

The exercise has later been expanded, and last week it was also known that Britain will participate with 20,000 soldiers, wrote Sky News.

Now the figure is 90,000 – a total of 31 nations will participate in the exercise.
