NATO’s Increase in Military Aid to Ukraine Brings Third World War Closer, says Russian Security Council Deputy Secretary

Dmitry Medvedev, deputy secretary of the Russian Security Council headed by President Vladimir Putin, said that NATO’s increase in military aid to Ukraine is bringing the Third World War closer.

Commenting on the first day of the US-led NATO summit in Lithuania, where a number of countries pledged to provide more weapons and financial support to Kiev, Medvedev said that the aid will not prevent Russia from achieving its goals in Ukraine.

“The West, which has gone mad, could not come up with something else… In fact, it is a dead end. World War III is approaching,” Medvedev wrote on the messaging app Telegram.

“What does all this mean for us? Everything is clear. The special military operation will continue with the same goals,” he added.

Russia describes its actions in Ukraine as a “special military operation”, while Kiev and its allies say Moscow is waging an unprovoked war to seize territory and control of its neighbour.

The West says it wants to help Ukraine win the war, and has already supplied it with large quantities of modern weapons and ammunition.

The United States announced that it would provide Kiev with cluster munitions, which usually release large numbers of small bombs over a wide area. Many countries ban this type of ammunition.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Moscow would have to use “similar” weapons if the United States supplied cluster bombs to Ukraine.

Russia and Ukraine have already accused each other of using cluster munitions in the war, which has been going on for more than 500 days.
