There are no signs of a deliberate attack on an Alliance member state

The explosion in eastern Poland, which claimed two lives, was believed to have been caused by Ukrainian air defences. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated this at a press conference on Wednesday, specifying that there were no indications that the explosion was due to a deliberate attack.

“We have determined that the incident occurred as a result of defensive actions by Ukraine against a Russian missile attack. However, Russia bears the greatest responsibility for the ongoing war against Ukraine,” Stoltenberg announced. And he specified that there are no indications that Russia is preparing attacks against a NATO member country. Yesterday’s incident occurred after Russia fired 90 missiles at Ukraine.

The Polish President: There are no indications that the explosion was a deliberate attack on Poland

Stoltenberg was adamant that the Alliance would continue to support Ukraine. “I spoke with the Polish president and the US head of state, Joe Biden. We have agreed to remain vigilant and calm. We will continue to consult with allies. We will do whatever is necessary to protect all allies,” he added.

The NATO Secretary General explained that the Alliance stands ready to address such situations and prevent further escalation. “We are concerned when such situations occur with casualties, we follow up and monitor,” he added. And he stressed that what happened in Poland does not mean a failure of defense capabilities. “We are ready for a rocket attack. But as I said, this was the result of the actions of the Ukrainian air defense,” Stoltenberg said.

Poland puts its troops on high alert

Polish President Andrzej Duda also announced the news minutes earlier. He also said there was no indication that the airstrike was a deliberate attack on Poland. “This is probably an unfortunate incident. “Ukraine has been trying to defend itself against Russia’s massive airstrike,” the head of state stressed.
