A NATO summit has turned out to be more divisive than expected and revealed a “fundamentally different approach” to the war between the West and Ukraine, military analyst Sean Bell told Sky News.
UK Defense Secretary Ben Wallace told Sky News that the country was not a weapons delivery shop for Ukraine and that Kiev might be wise to let its supporters “see gratitude”.
Analyst Sean Bell has commented that it is “harder and harder” for the West to provide weapons, taking “more and more risk” and spending “more and more money”.
But he added that Volodymyr Zelensky “thinks he is waging the war on behalf of the West” because “if Russia prevails, what follows” and Ukraine provides the soldiers and endures “the devastation of the land”.
“War fatigue is gradually setting in and we’re seeing some of the truths, some of the pitfalls starting to surface now,” Bell said.
“NATO could also withhold membership options if Ukraine continues to make little progress in its counteroffensive. If it stalls, both sides could end up in an impasse leading to negotiations.”
Ukraine’s commitment to NATO membership “could encourage Putin” to keep fighting to stop that from happening, Benn explained.
“If Ukraine manages to make some sort of breakthrough in the next few weeks, it could completely change the landscape, but for now NATO is off the table.”
