NATO Soldiers Already in Ukraine: Polish Foreign Minister Reveals Presence Without Naming Countries

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said that military personnel from NATO countries are already in Ukraine, but he did not specify which countries they were.

“NATO soldiers are already present in Ukraine. And I would like to thank the ambassadors of those countries who took this risk. These countries know who they are, but they cannot be revealed. Unlike other politicians, I will not announce the list,” said Sikorsky during a discussion at a conference dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Poland’s entry into the alliance, which took place on March 8.

He added, that the presence of NATO troops in Ukraine is not “something unthinkable” and approved the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron, who said that he “does not rule out” sending NATO troops to Ukraine. “The point is that Putin is afraid of us, and not we are afraid of Putin,” – added Sikorsky.

Russian Foreign Ministry representative Maria Zakharova, commenting to Izvestia on Sikorsky’s statement, statedthat representatives of the alliance “there is no point in denying further.”

On February 26, French President Emmanuel Macron, speaking after a conference of leaders of 20 European countries, said that he did not rule out sending NATO troops to Ukraine. In the days that followed, representatives of most other Western countries, including the United States, rejected this possibility. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also said that the alliance has no such plans.

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, commenting on Macron’s words, said that if NATO troops appear in Ukraine, a direct conflict between Russia and the alliance will become inevitable.

On March 4, Macron clarified that France is not considering the possibility of sending its military contingent to Ukraine, but is “starting discussions” and thinking about everything that can be done to support the Ukrainians. Later he also explainedthat “not ruling out something does not mean doing it.”

During a meeting with leaders of French political parties on March 7, Macron said that there should be no restrictions on support for Ukraine. Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev responded that “at that time Russia no longer had any red lines left in relation to France.”
