NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg: Putin Shows No Signs of Planning Peace Talks to End Ukraine War

There are no signs yet that Russian President Vladimir Putin is planning peace talks to end the war in Ukraine. Only the too high cost of continuing hostilities can convince him of this.

This statement was made by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg during a panel discussion at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Tuesday, January 16, writes “Correspondent”.

“What we can do is simply maximize the likelihood that at some stage President Putin will realize that continuing this war will be too high a cost. And then at some stage he will have to sit down and negotiate some kind of fair and a strong peace in which Ukraine prevails as a sovereign independent state. And the paradox is that if we want this to happen, a peaceful and just end to this war, the path to it is more weapons for Ukraine,” – said the NATO Secretary General.

Stoltenberg believes that “the more reliable we are in our military support, the more likely it is that diplomats will succeed,” because events at the diplomatic negotiating table are very closely linked to the situation on the battlefield.

“There is no sign that Putin is planning peace now, but he will when he realizes that we will not give up, that we have the military power to support Ukraine,” – he summarized.
