NATO countries have agreed to acquire six new aircraft to replace the aging fleet of AWACS surveillance aircraft.
– It is one of the largest single procurements in NATO’s history, said Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at a press conference in Brussels on Tuesday.
Production of six new Boeing E-7A Wedgetail aircraft will begin next year, and the first aircraft will be ready in 2031, according to the NATO chief.
NATO acquired AWACS aircraft for the first time in 1978.
