NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has said Russia could try to use chemical weapons in its invasion of Ukraine, Reuters reported.

“In recent days, we have heard absurd allegations about chemical and biological weapons laboratories,” Stoltenberg said in an interview with the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag. He added that the Kremlin was fabricating a false pretext to justify what could not be justified.

“Now that these false allegations have been made, we must be vigilant, because it is possible that Russia itself is planning chemical weapons operations while fabricating these lies. It would be a war crime,” Stoltenberg said.

Although the Ukrainian people are resisting the Russian invasion with courage, the coming days are likely to bring even greater difficulties, according to the NATO Secretary General.

If chemical weapons are used in Ukraine, this could also affect Bulgaria, because this season the winds are blowing from the northeast, from the region of Ukraine, commented the Minister of Environment Borislav Sandov.
