NATO Prepares Scenarios to Fight in 2 Wars at Once

WASHINGTON – NATO soon adopts guidelines outlining plans for scenarios in which member states find themselves fighting on the front lines of their countries and outside the alliance’s borders at the same time.

Bloomberg reported this on Tuesday (14/2/2023). The news comes as the US is increasingly shifting its priorities to confront China.

“The secret document will be discussed and signed off by NATO defense ministers during a two-day summit in Brussels starting Tuesday,” said the Bloomberg report.

Members will be required to prepare a national plan for future military engagement.

The guide will map out ways for NATO to engage in “high-intensity conflicts referred to in Article 5” in defense of a NATO country attacked by a foreign party under the terms of a mutual defense agreement, and “events outside the territory of Article 5.”

The contents of the guidelines were disclosed to Bloomberg by “those familiar with the matter.”

While NATO bills itself as a defensive alliance, the bloc has an extensive record of engaging in hostilities on foreign soil, including in Yugoslavia in the 1990s and against Libya in 2011.

Critics view the bloc as a US foreign policy tool aligned with Washington’s policy goals in competition against China and Russia.
