The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) announced yesterday that it will conduct naval maneuvers in the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean this month, in which 5 aircraft carriers will participate. “NATO” said in a statement that the maneuvers will include exercises to attack submarines, air exercises, transfers of aircraft from the deck of aircraft carriers and refueling at sea.
The statement added that the largest and most modern US warship, the USS Gerald, will participate in maneuvers in the Atlantic Ocean after arriving in the UK after participating in maneuvers with Canadian, Danish, French, German, Dutch and spanish.
In this regard, the “NATO” spokeswoman Luana Lungescu said: “The dispatch of the naval vessels shows our ability to project force across the NATO region and the speed of support to the allies”.
And he underlined that “in the context of the Ukrainian crisis, aircraft carriers provide deterrence and assistance in keeping maritime communication channels open”, noting that “our force sends a clear message that (NATO) will protect and defend every inch of the region of ‘alliance.
