General of the Army Christopher Cavoli was confirmed by the Senate on June 25. Prior to this, Cavoli commanded the forces of the US Army on the European continent.
It is noted that the general takes office at a time when a fierce war between Russia and Ukraine is going on in the east of Europe.
It is also known that Cavoli supported the entry of the Scandinavian countries into the Alliance.
“Each of the armed forces of these countries will bring many opportunities to the Alliance from day one,” he said.
The four-star general, according to Politico, speaks fluent Russian and received a master’s degree from Yale University in Russian studies. He served as director for Russia on the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
