NATO divided on the advisability of talking with Putin

France, Germany and Hungary are in favor of negotiations with Russia, while in Britain, Poland and other countries they believe that this will be in the hands of Putin.

NATO leaders have differing views on whether to engage in dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding his invasion of Ukraine. On Tuesday, March 29, reports Bloomberg with reference to sources familiar with the discussions, as well as to documents.

According to the agency, NATO members also have different opinions about what weapons should be sent to Ukraine. In particular, France and Germany are in favor of an early ceasefire and the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine, thus maintaining a dialogue.

One of the documents related to the NATO talks states that other countries believe that the dialogue between Paris and Berlin with Moscow is counterproductive and can “play into the hands of Putin.” In particular, this is considered in the UK, Poland and some countries of Eastern and Central Europe, except for Hungary. These countries, according to Bloomberg, are skeptical about the negotiations, as they believe that the Russian president is not seriously considering the possibility of concluding a peace agreement.

Earlier it was reported that in Germany cardinally changed the forecast for the outcome of the war in Ukraine. Now in Berlin they believe that Russia cannot win.
