It is impossible to rule out the scenario of a Russian attack on NATO in the medium term, Jānis Sārts, director of NATO’s Strategic Communication Center of Excellence, admitted in an interview on the TV3 program “900 seconds”.
NATO is preparing for the possibility that Russia could attack, and this preparation is meant as a deterrent. “It must be admitted that the situation in Ukraine is not as bright as we would have liked, Western support in the form of weapons is not sufficient, a series of elections are planned in the world, which create political uncertainties, and therefore it is currently impossible to rule out negative scenarios in the medium term,” said the expert, although stressing that this does not mean that such scenarios are inevitable.
Sarts explained that Russian information operations are currently taking place, the purpose of which is, among other things, to intensify people’s emotions and create a sense of doom that Ukraine will lose, the West will be next and the Baltic states will end. The response to such an information operation must be very rational – we must prepare so that we are ready if the worst scenarios materialize, but at the same time it is in our own hands to work to ensure that it does not happen.
“If Ukraine wins the war, none of the bad scenarios will come true,” the head of the center is confident.
