NATO nations are sending ships and destroyers to Eastern Europe to step up its defenses in the wake of tensions over Russia’s concentration on Ukraine’s borders, the alliance said on Monday.

“NATO will take all necessary measures to protect all Allies, including by strengthening the eastern part of the Alliance. We will always respond to the deteriorating security environment, ”said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

NATO noted the recent steps taken by the Danish government to strengthen security in the Baltic region by sending additional frigates and four destroyers to NATO missions, increasing the number of warships deployed by Spain and “declaring readiness for naval and ground forces” for the Netherlands.

The NATO statement also mentions France’s recent offer to send troops to Bulgaria and the fact that “the United States has made it clear that it is considering increasing its military presence.”
