Russia has fired missiles at about 30% of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure since Monday. Meanwhile, US analysts assume that the purpose of Monday’s Russian attack was to clean up the public image of the Russian Defense Ministry for internal political purposes.
NATO countries are preparing to provide additional military aid to Ukraine
Zelensky: the reconstruction works are proceeding effectively
After Monday’s massive attack on several Ukrainian cities, the launch of Russian missiles on Ukrainian territory continued on Tuesday. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said in his night speech that Russia has carried out a second wave of terrorist attacks.
“Across the country, restoration work is proceeding fairly quickly and effectively. If it hadn’t been for today’s strikes, we would have already restored the electricity, water and communications that the terrorists damaged yesterday.
Russia will accomplish just one more thing: it will delay our recovery a bit. In the event of damage, the infrastructure will be restored. Where something has been lost, there is already or will be a construction. Where the hopes of the enemy were, there will be the ruins of Russian statehood. And I thank all those who, according to their abilities, ensure the recovery after these terrorist attacks “.
Over the past few days, the city of Zaporizhia has suffered greatly from the bombing of the Russian army, and last night was no exception, when about seven Russian rockets landed on it again. Fortunately, there are no casualties.
In total, Zaporizhia and the Zaporizhia district have been the subject of 202 Russian missile attacks since 24 February, in which 242 people have been killed.
Meanwhile, the Russian army fired more than 100 bullets overnight at the city of Nikopol, across the Dnieper River, in front of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant.
Moscow is trying to distract from the failures on the battlefield
US analysts indicated Monday’s massive missile strike on Ukrainian territory was planned prior to the appointment of Sergei Surovikin as the new commander of Russian troops in Ukraine. Experts believe that the main objective of Monday’s attack was to restore the public image of the Russian Defense Ministry.
There has been a lot of criticism in Russia about the progress of partial mobilization and the most militant part of Russian society has called for an increase in attacks against Ukraine, especially after the attack on the Crimean bridge.
Furthermore, the appointment of Surovikin himself could have taken place precisely to revive public opinion in a good attitude towards the Ministry of Defense after a series of Russian failures on the battlefield.
According to Ukraine’s Energy Minister Hermans Halushchenko, Russia has fired missiles on about 30 percent of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure since Monday. Halushchenko said one reason for the shootings was that Ukraine’s electricity exports to Europe “help European countries save on Russian gas and coal.”
The minister noted that Ukraine’s energy system is “still stable”, but called on partners to provide “air defense systems so that Ukraine can protect its infrastructure”.
The Americans supply the HIMARS systems
Supplies of military equipment are under discussion in Brussels on Wednesday, where a meeting of defense ministers of NATO member states will be held. The US-led Ukrainian Defense Contact Group will also be held during the meeting, during which the possibilities of promptly providing the military aid immediately needed to Ukraine will be discussed with the Ukrainian Defense Minister, Oleksiy Reznikov.
Already before the meeting of NATO defense ministers, it became known that the Americans handed over four more HIMARS systems to Ukraine, while Ukraine has already received from Germany the first “IRIS-T” anti-aircraft missile system, which is a medium-range aircraft defense system. The NASAMS “surface-to-air” anti-aircraft missile system will also be delivered soon.
Meanwhile, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has called on US allies to speed up the delivery of financial assistance to Ukraine, settle their existing obligations to Ukraine and pledge to do even more.
CONTEXT:
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered to start invasion of Russian troops in Ukraine. Putin said NATO would use Ukraine as a stepping stone for aggression against Russia, although there was no evidence for these claims.
Ukraine believes that Putin’s real goal is to destroy Ukraine’s statehood and bring the territory under the control of Moscow.
In early autumn, in Ukraine’s counterattack freed by the occupants more territory than Russia had managed to capture since early April.
On October 10, Russia with missiles carried out massive attacks Ukrainian cities by bombing civil infrastructure and urban residential areas. At least 19 people were killed in the attacks, more than 100 were injured.
