The expert remarked that recently the NATO Secretary General himself, the Norwegian Jens Stoltenberg, assured that Finland and Sweden will be admitted to the bloc in 2023 despite the veto of Turkey, which opposes the entry of the two Nordic countries due to their support for the Kurdish organization PKK which Ankara considers terrorist. Parjalina stressed that she should not be surprised if NATO is possibly a game changer. Be that as it may, the expert concluded, NATO seeks to incorporate Sweden and Finland, the latter bordering Russia. Finland and Sweden need Turkey’s approval to be admitted to NATO. The go-ahead is conditional on the extradition of a hundred PKK members who are hiding in those two Nordic countries. Sweden’s admission was jeopardized after a far-right politician burned a Koran, the Muslim holy book, in Stockholm. The desecration of the Koran in the monarchical European country sparked protest from Muslim nations, including Turkey.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – NATO, a war bloc led by the United States, can ignore Turkey’s opposition and incorporate Finland and Sweden, said political scientist Tatiana Parjalina, president of the Association for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation.
“There were precedents before, but not in NATO, but in the European Union, when the EU bypassed the Hungarian veto. It cannot be ruled out that these two institutions in some cases could break their mandatory unanimity rules in force until today, taking into account that in each of them it has its unpredictable actor,” Parjalina told Sputnik.
The expert remarked that recently the Secretary General of the I’LL TAKEthe Norwegian Jens Stoltenberg, assured that Finland and Sweden will be admitted to the bloc in 2023 despite Turkey’s vetowhich opposes the entry of the two Nordic countries because of its support for the Kurdish PKK organization that Ankara considers a terrorist.
Parjalina stressed that it should come as no surprise that NATO could possibly change the rules of the game.
“We live in a time of geopolitical breakdown and it should not surprise us that the current rules change and will change. The world order and the rules within international institutions and the relations between the actors also change,” he said.
Be that as it may, the expert concluded, NATO seeks to incorporate Sweden and Finland, the latter bordering Russia.
