The I’LL TAKE asked this Monday to Russia y North Korea to “immediately” end the deployment of North Korean soldiers on Russian territory to support Moscow in the war against Ukraine.

“Today I can confirm that North Korean troops have been sent to Russia and that North Korean military units have been deployed to the (Russian) Kursk region.”said NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in a statement following the visit of a high-level delegation from South Korea to brief the Alliance on the issue.

The transatlantic organization had already confirmed last week the deployment of North Korean soldiers in Russia and today a South Korean delegation informed the North Atlantic CouncilNATO’s highest decision-making body in which Member States are represented, on the involvement of Pionyang in Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Rutte said the deployment of North Korean troops to Russia represents “a significant escalation in North Korea’s current involvement in Russia’s illegal war,” “another violation of UN Security Council resolutions” and “a dangerous expansion of the Russian war.

“NATO calls on Russia and North Korea to stop these actions immediately,” he said.

He added that deepening military cooperation between Russia and North Korea is “a threat to Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific security.”

“It undermines peace on the Korean Peninsula and fuels the Russian war against Ukraine,” he said.

He added that in return the Russian president, Vladimir Putinis providing North Korea with military technology and “other support to circumvent international sanctions.”

«The deployment of North Korean troops in Kursk is also a sign of Putin’s growing desperation. “More than 600,000 Russian soldiers have been killed or wounded in Putin’s war and he is unable to maintain his assault on Ukraine without foreign support.”he stressed.

“NATO allies will continue to support a free and democratic Ukraine, because Ukraine’s security is our security”he commented, and specified that today they also talked about the need to increase military support for kyiv.

Rutte announced that this Monday he will hold telephone conversations with the president of South Korea, Yoon Suk-yeoland with the Ukrainian Minister of Defense, Rustem Umerov.

The South Korean delegation that today visited NATO headquarters in Brussels was made up of “high-level representatives” of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) and the Ministry of Defense of the Asian country, according to Rutte. The allies also shared the analyzes of their intelligence services, according to the Secretary General of the Alliance.

Also present at the meeting with the South Korean delegation were the ambassadors to NATO of Australia, Japan and New Zealand. EFE (I)
