Russia continues to send troops and equipment to its border with Ukraine, NATO and the United States say. There is no indication that Russia is withdrawing part of its troops, as the Kremlin claims.
Moscow maintains that it will remove troops from the border area. In three to four weeks, the military in western Russia will be back to normal positions, the Russian ambassador to Ireland said, according to Reuters news agency.
Major cyber attack on Ukraine
Ukraine also says there is no sign of a Russian retreat yet. The Ukrainian defense minister relies on information from his intelligence services. His ministry and a number of banks were hit by a cyber attack today and yesterday. Ukraine speaks of the largest hacking attack ever against the country and suspects that Russia is behind it.
Russia denies that. According to the US, it is not yet possible to say who is responsible for the cyber attack.
However, according to the White House it is clear that Russia is still moving important army units to the border with Ukraine. The Russian Defense Ministry said earlier that part of the force has left the border area because the military exercise in that region has been completed. It was not said how many soldiers would leave.
