Less than 40 minutes ago
At midnight on the night of Sunday, the original deadline for mediation in this year’s frontline settlement expired. National mediator Mats Ruland then confirmed to NTB that they expected to hold on for several hours in the future.
– The parties agree to mediate further through the night. This means that employees attend work as usual, unless otherwise notified, writes The joint association on their websites night to Sunday.
If Fellesforbundet and Norwegian Industry do not agree, 14,301 workers will be taken out on strike from Monday, and a further 14,904 members from Thursday at 6.
This means that close to 30,000 members from over 730 companies may be taken out on strike during the next week.
We use the night
Already an hour before the deadline expired, Ruland announced that the mediation was going to extend into the wee hours of the night.
– The night will be used here, and probably no one will get any breaks in the coming hours. Here we have to work hard until everything is resolved, Ruland added VG.
Two hours earlier, the Ombudsman had stated that there had been progress in the last few hours, but that there were still many questions that had not been clarified. He has not wanted to say anything about how big the distance is between the parties.
Unknown to the public
The forced mediation has been going on since Wednesday morning after an acknowledgment by both parties that they were not going to come to an agreement without the mediator’s help.
It is still unknown to the public how much the Federation is demanding in salary supplements this year. What is communicated is that the wage settlement must ensure that everyone gets increased purchasing power. That could mean a settlement of around 5 percent.
The front-line settlement applies to industry exposed to competition, and the result here forms a norm that virtually the whole of organized working life respects and follows. The purpose is to ensure a wage structure that is fairly equal between the occupational groups and which should keep price inflation in check, unemployment low and not contribute to weakening international competitiveness.
