TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – National Winning Team (TPN) Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md. responding to the attitude of vice presidential candidate or cawapres Gibran Rakabuming Raka when he left the podium and cheered during the second debate at the Jakarta Convention Center, Friday evening, December 22 2023, which was underway.
According to Chico, the presidential-vice presidential debate is an event to fulfill the public’s desire to have the opportunity to evaluate each candidate thoroughly. “Overall, first, substance. Capability, competence and insight,” said a TPN spokesperson Ganjar-MahfudChico Hakim, when contacted on Monday, December 25 2023.
Apart from the substance of the issues raised in the debate, according to him, what needs to be emphasized is adab. Apart from etiquette, emotional intelligence behavior needs to be considered by each candidate and is important. “We see that in this Gibran there is a trend (showing)’the president’s son‘. I mean the president’s son, there’s arrogance there,” Chico said.
Because he considers himself the president’s son, according to Chico, it gives the impression that he wants to break the rules. This was visible long before the debate took place. For example, Gibran attended the All Indonesian Village Government Association (Apdesi) event at Gelora Bung Karno before the campaign period.
“Including on several occasions, such as questions and answers with the people, it was very visible,” he said. Apart from that, according to Chico, the public needs to see emotional intelligence. A leader must have intelligent insight. But emotional intelligence, he said, is no less important.

“Because it will give an insight into what his character will be like when he leads,” said Chico. “Whether he is easily irritated or arrogant, that will have an impact on the policies he leads.”
Previously, Gibran carried out provocative actions in the first debate. At that time, there was a debate for presidential candidates, which took place in the courtyard of the General Election Commission office. He stood up and cheered when Prabowo Subianto was asked about the Constitutional Court’s decision regarding the age limit for presidential candidates. The KPU stated that it had reprimanded Gibran via TKN Prabowo-Gibran during the evaluation meeting.
Chico said that Gibran standing up and cheering was not just encouraging supporters. But the eldest son of President Joko Widodo or Jokowi moved from the podium, approaching another vice presidential candidate. “As if to show what, yes, if you want to say it is part of intimidatory styles, yes,” he said. “As if I wanted to show it in front of the camera, you know, I’m younger, more energetic.”
Furthermore, Chico said that what was surprising in the debate was that Gibran was quite confident, and that needed to be acknowledged. “But that confidence was not accompanied by clear substance. Many of his answers did not match the questions,” said Chico. For example, according to Chico, Mahfud asked about the Prabowo-Gibran couple’s plans to increase the tax ratio (tax ratio) up to 23 percent.
“How do you want to increase taxes? People don’t even want to take tax incentives,” said Mahfud, during the debate. At that time, Mahfud said, the government could not arbitrarily take policies that did not suit conditions on the ground or exact data. According to him, regarding taxes, it is a sensitive matter for society.
Chico said that Mahfud asked this question twice, but Gibran didn’t answer it. “He was asked twice, the second time he didn’t answer the question,” he said.
After his supporters’ provocative actions in the first debate became the focus, two days later he apologized. “Yes, I apologize in advance,” said Gibran, last Thursday, December 14. However, this was done again during the vice presidential debate at the JCC building, South Jakarta.
Previously, Chairman of the General Election Commission, Hasyim Asy’ari, said he would convey it again to TKN Prabowo-Gibran during the second debate evaluation meeting. He said the KPU would hear the opinions of Gibran’s support team. Then decide what to evaluate.
“Including warning again about displays that could be said to have been agreed not to be carried out during this debate,” said Hasyim, after the debate, Friday evening, December 22 2023. He did not explain about sanctions for Gibran, who twice provoked supporters during the debate. .
