National Voluntary and Regular Blood Donor Day: Celebrating the Lifesaving Practice of Blood Donation

National Voluntary and Regular Blood Donor Day

In 2004, National Law 25,936 was enacted, establishing November 9 as the official date to commemorate the first blood transfusion performed in Argentina in 1914 at the Rawson Hospital Model Institute in the Federal Capital by Dr. Luis Agote.

This event made it possible to preserve blood in a liquid state with sodium citrate and initiated a substantial opportunity throughout the world, since the transfer of blood between humans made it possible to save millions of lives since then.

It is worth mentioning that, within the framework of the celebration, during November joint actions with different areas of Health, the Argentine Red Cross Jujuy branch and other organizations will continue and the Government House will be illuminated in the hours before November 9.
