Mexico City, October 17, 2023 – Different respiratory viruses circulate at the same time, including seasonal influenza and SARS-CoV-2, among others that are responsible for acute infections and similar respiratory diseases. In this regard, influenza and COVID-19 vaccination remain the best available method to reduce the burden of severe influenza and COVID-19.
In this context, PAHO/WHO Mexico accompanied the national authorities last Monday, October 15, in the start of the National Vaccination Campaign against Influenza and COVID-19, for the 2023-2024 winter season, a launch in which It had the participation of top authorities from the Ministry of Health and the institutions that make up the National Health System.
Dr. José Moya Medina, PAHO/WHO Representative in Mexico, pointed out the Organization’s commitment to collaborating with national efforts aimed at increasing vaccination coverage of the permanent vaccination program, so that every girl, boy, adolescent and older adults, are protected against diseases that are preventable.
Finally, Dr. Moya extended his gratitude to all authorities and health personnel involved in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including the personnel who collaborate with the Universal Vaccination Program, given that, thanks to their efforts, It was possible to give a different rhythm to the initial epidemiological channel, prior to the immunization of the population.
