On the 17th, the Military Manpower Administration released personal information on the website of the 256 people who avoided military service last year, including Seok. The name, age, address, date of challenge, point of challenge, and provisions of violation of the law are provided.
Suk was on the list for the reason of’no return within the permission period’. After obtaining permission to travel abroad, Suk must return to Korea before April 1 of last year, when he was 28 years old, but has not implemented this. According to the current law, overseas travel is restricted when a person who has not yet served military service reaches the age of 28 unless there is a special reason.
The Military Manpower Administration explained that in March, it provided advance notices to those who were subject to disclosure, such as Seok, and gave them an opportunity to clarify for six months, and that the final candidates for disclosure were determined after a deliberation by the Military Service Weapons Disclosure Deliberation Committee.
The Military Manpower Administration has a policy of filing criminal charges against all of the members on the list for violating the Military Service Act.
An official from the Military Manpower Administration said, “It is expected that a culture of faithfully fulfilling military service will be established by preventing the occurrence of evacuees by disclosing the personal information of those evaluating military service, which has been implemented since July 1, 2015.”
