National Theater Center actor Omar Churión wins the Isaac Chocrón Award

The Ministry of Popular Power for Culture, through the National Theater Company (CNT), is proud of the award given to the actor of the permanent cast, Omar Churión as a playwright, in the eighth edition of the Isaac Chocrón awards, for his work exceptional as director of the show “Penitentes”.

The staging by the author Elio Palencia tells the story of three homosexual characters: a priest, a student and a bum, whose fates will be linked on a Saturday night in a gay nightclub in the capital. From that moment on, the force of dramatic action leads to endless high-tension revelations and confessions that reveal the taboos and appearances of Venezuelan society.

Churión’s directing work contributed to the staging of a key element in the development of the story of Palencia, a chord that during the opera acts as an indissoluble link between the three characters, making the connection between them more real and physical. which constitutes a minimalist but impressive proposition over the course of the dramatic result.

“It is incredible, to see my name on the nominated directors list and now to know that I was one of those selected to receive the statuette of the founder of the National Theater Company is a great honor. Furthermore, having the teacher Isaac Chocrón as a witness to the work I have done is doubly wonderful, I am infinitely grateful to the Foundation for this recognition ”, were the words of Churión after receiving the award.

Churión began her career at the Juana Sujo School of Performing Arts in 2008 and continues her education with teachers César Rojas, Dairo Piñeres, Héctor Manrique, Javier Vidal and teacher Rosana Hernández.

He has worked in more than 30 plays as an actor, director and producer with directors such as Rufino Dorta, Miguel Issa and Guillermo Díaz Yuma, among others.

His most recent performances with the CNT are “Manuela, la Paita insepolta” and “The second death of a general”; with “Penitentes” he participates in the seventh edition of the Festival of Young Directors of Trasnocho Cultural, of which he is the winner.
