The national team’s open tryout and camp ultimately produced a similar picture as before: Team Austria consists largely of ELF players. There are 17 from the Vienna Vikings and 9 from the Raiders Tirol in the squad, as well as two legionnaires. From the AFL, 11 players come from the Vienna Vikings, three from the Danube Dragons and one from the Graz Giants.

But we are also very happy to still have some national team veterans on the roster. Our current mix of young and experienced players is very exciting!”
At the IFAF European Championship 2024/25, in addition to the away game in Hungary, a home game against Serbia in Salzburg awaits the selection of the head coach Max Sommer. As with the 2022/23 European Championship, Austria must win both games in order to be able to play for the title the following year.

Duel with Germany possible
If Austria and Germany, which is taking part in a European Championship for the first time since 2014, win their two regular season games in October, there would be a meeting in the semi-finals next year. It would be the first duel with Germany since the European Championship final in 2014. Austria’s national team has never won a game against an AFVD selection. One of HC Sommer’s goals is to change that.
