Austrian sports journalists have voted: Victoria Hudson and Valentin Bontus are the Austrian Athlete of the Year 2024. The NIKI for Team of the Year goes to the sailing duo Lara Vadlau/Lukas Mähr. The AFBÖ (American football) men’s national team took 8th place in the division.
Disabled Athlete of the Year Natalia Eder, Thomas Frühwirth to be the Disabled Athlete of the Year. The Special Olympics is where the awards go Veronika Kaube and Simon Berchtold. The awards were held as part of the 28th Gala Sporthilfe LOTTERIEN in the Wiener Stadthalle.
Voted Breakout Star of the Year by local sports fans, he was the goalkeeper of the national handball team Constantin Möstl getting his NIKI. A climbing coach was chosen by the BSO – Sport Austria expert jury Cillian Fischhuber For Personal Trainer of the Year. Star guest David Alaba presented the Tennis Figurehead Special Award Dominic Thiemalso Honorary President of Sports Media Austria Michael Kuhn he was honored with a special NIKI. The 3×3 wheelchair basketball players and the men’s 3×3 team provided the most emotional sporting moment of the year. The NIKI for the athlete with a heart was awarded Nico Langmann.
Local sport as a whole is the big winner of the night: The LOTTERIEN Sporthilfe Gala is Austria’s biggest sports fundraising event. 500,000 euros in cash will benefit Austrian athletes.
