National swimmers stand out in the 2024 El Salvador Cup – – 2024-05-06 04:28:10

The second day of competitions for the 2024 El Salvador Cup, organized by the Salvadoran Swimming Federation at the El Polvorín Sports Complex, was an exciting spectacle of aquatic skills.

From the early hours of the morning, the modern facilities, a legacy of the San Salvador 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games, vibrated with the energy of national and international swimmers.

On the first day, El Salvador accumulated 20 gold medals, 13 silver and 22 bronze medals, which places it as the leader of the general medal table by country and as a favorite to win the contest that concludes on Sunday, May 5.

In today’s morning session, the preliminaries were held in the 50-meter breaststroke, 200-meter freestyle and 100-meter backstroke events of the U10 and 11-12 year old categories, in both branches. While the swimmers in the 13-14 year old category competed in the 400 meter medley.

In the afternoon, the excitement reached its peak with the finals of the preliminary tests. In these decisive competitions, El Salvador continued to add medals.

In the U10 women’s 50 meter breaststroke, the national María Vela Quijano took second place by finishing with a time of 45.61 seconds. The winner was Andrea Palomo, from Aquatic Center (Guatemala), with 43.98 seconds; The bronze went to Sofía Argueta, from Guatemala, with 46.40.

In the same event, but in the men’s category, Gerardo Vásquez added another gold to his personal tally by stopping the clock with 47.58 seconds. Also Salvadoran Dominic Sandoval took silver by registering 53.13, while José Gudiel, from Asonat de Zacapa (Guatemala), was third with 54.06.

Yohamy Flores (11-12 years old), Fiorela Avilés (13-14 years old) and Tatiana Segura (15 and over) shone in the 50-meter breaststroke and added more golds for El Salvador. Elías Segovia (15 and over), an athlete from the Effort and Glory Program, Carlos Saca (11-12 years old) and José Santos (13-14 years old) won the gold medal in this same event.

In the U10 women’s 200 meter freestyle, Mía Robles and Sofía Argueta, from the Aquatic Center, went 1-2 in the event. The national Ana Mira took the bronze. While in men, Vásquez added his fifth gold in the competition by winning with a time of 2:39.32 minutes.

Alexandra Meléndez and Sarah Ramos took first place in the 200 meter freestyle for 13-14 years and 15 and over, respectively.

Óscar Vigil and Carlos Saca won gold and silver in the 200 freestyle in the 11-12 year old men’s category. Vigil recorded a time of 2:17.71 minutes, while Saca clocked 2:19.10.

For his part, the Salvadoran Nicló Pilenga took silver in that same event, but in the 13-14 year old category.

In the 400 meters combined, El Salvador won gold in the 13-14 year old category and also in the 15 and older category, thanks to the performances of Elena Gutiérrez and Dayana Meléndez, beneficiary of the Effort and Glory Program. Meléndez also added a gold in the 100 meter backstroke.
