National strike at Lidl: “Two thirds of the stores will…

The unions are organizing a collective strike at the supermarket chain Lidl today/Saturday. The chain has been hit by industrial action for four days after the management said it would scale back promises made years ago about extra manpower in the stores. “The promotion is going very well at the moment, the counter is at 175. I am counting on 220 of the 309 stores to remain closed today,” the socialist trade union BBTK said.

So far, Jan De Weghe of the BBTK has assumed that 175 stores have already closed and the doors will not open on Saturday. “Keeping them all closed is a utopia. But the action is going very well. Of the 309, 175 are already closed, so more than half. And I haven’t gotten any news from everyone yet. I assume that 220 stores can remain closed today, that would be nice in any case,” he says. “But we are also satisfied with 150 stores, because that sends a clear signal”. De Weghe is positive that the counter stood at 175 at 9 am on Saturday morning: “It already indicates that the campaign was successful.”

De Weghe emphasizes that anyone who wants to work can do so. “We don’t want to force anyone. Every employee has the choice and you can also keep a store open with three employees,” it sounds. There are no strike plans for Monday for the time being, as there will then be a return to the negotiating table. There will be no general strike then.
