National Security Expert Ivan Anchev Discusses Political Clans and Depoliticization of Security Services in Bulgaria

“There is a timing for everything, you can say great truths, but if you miss the right moment, everything you say is called into question. Geshev had enough time to say things that would have weight and perception in society, and not to leave the impression of settling accounts between interested clans, who have spoiled the game with each other and are now measuring their muscles”, said the diplomat and national security expert Ivan Anchev in the studio of “Day ON AIR”.

He specified that the unfreezing of investigations, the latest of which was about the Turkish Stream gas pipeline, was no accident.

“We are currently silent observers of a settlement of accounts, which is to the total detriment of Bulgarian society. Political influence in the SJC should not be destructive to the image and trust in the institution. The war is not only between clans, it is transferred to society,” he added Anchev.

According to the national security expert, the Revival party should have been banned a year ago.

“We see the special forces of “Vazrazhdane” marching through the streets of Sofia, interrupted a film with content they don’t like. We saw them draw broken crosses, write inscriptions in German against Jews, on businesses they don’t like. If we had a prosecutor’s office , which doesn’t concern itself, a year ago it should have been self-conscious about what “Vazrazhdane” were doing and banned them like “Golden Dawn” in Greece. This is the way to build a democratic society.” said the guest.

Before Bulgaria ON AIR, Ivan Anchev likened the situation to “a boiling pot in which anyone who touches risks being burned”. He also commented on the situation in the security services.

“The death of Angel Hristov shows that our services are in a waking coma, I know what kind of professionals work in these services, they are in absolute paralysis, they don’t know where to go, who to play with – the one who is strong today, may tomorrow be overthrown,” analyzed the national security expert.

Anchev is convinced that the real depoliticization of the services will bring them out of the waking coma, because “unfortunately, nowadays everyone knows who belongs to whom”.
