Danilov came up with these numbers in an interview with the Italian newspaper “Corriere della Sera”. Danilov was asked why Ukraine did not withdraw Bakhmut. The secretary of the National Security and Defense Council replied that the armed forces had to protect their cities, and without Ukrainian resistance, Russia would have won the war.
“Since September 1, when Moscow started using convicts as mercenaries in Bakhmut, [viņiem] 22,816 people died. Our losses were 7.5 times smaller. We have no right to give up our cities”, said Danilov.
In total, from September 1 to June 2023, more than 160,000 Russian invaders lost their lives in Ukraine.
