[철도노조 파업 <사진=연합뉴스>] As the National Railroad Workers’ Union strike continues for three days, reduced train service and inconvenience to citizens continue.
As of 3 p.m. today (16th), as compiled by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the national train operation rate was 70.8%.
The operation rate for each train fell to 68.1% for KTX, 59.2% for passenger trains, 76.1% for metropolitan subways, and 33.9% for freight trains.
Korea Railroad Corporation and KORAIL will temporarily operate 7 KTX trains, and will operate 6 additional KTX trains tomorrow (17th), for a total of 13 additional trains over the weekend.
The railroad union strike is scheduled to continue until 9 a.m. the day after tomorrow (the 18th).
While the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to continue further negotiations with the railway union, the union held a resolution meeting in downtown Seoul this afternoon and demanded the full implementation of the 4-group 2-shift system through KTX service to Suseo and additional manpower.
About 6,000 union members gathered on the main street near the three-way intersection of Namyeong Station.
“The demands of the railroad union are the demands of the absolute majority of citizens,” he said, raising his voice and saying that he would prepare for a second general strike if an agreement fails.
During the union’s performance using smoke bombs, a clash with the police broke out, and Cho Yong-hyun, director of the Organizational Dispute Department of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, was arrested on charges of obstruction of official duties.
