NEW YORK — The National Puerto Rican Parade, (NPRDP, for its acronym in English), celebrated its 66th edition this Sunday, June 11. An event that showcased the culture, history, and contributions of Puerto Ricans in the country and the world.
with the theme Music, Culture and Joythe iconic parade traveled 35 blocks down Fifth Avenue starting at 11:00 am, an event considered one of the largest cultural celebrations in the United States with an estimated attendance of one million people.

The talent of Telemundo 47 and NBC 4 was accompanying all the participants during the parade. Among them were Rosarina Bretón, Darling Burdiez, Veronica Contreras, Alejandro Mendoza, Odalys Molina, Cristina Navarrete, David Rodríguez, Yolanda Vásquez, Allan Villafaña, Ricardo Villarini, Ana Ledo, Ashley Chaparro, Gaby Acevedo, Gilma Avalos, Kay Angrum, Erica Byfield , Melissa Colorado, Marc Santia, and Violeta Yas.
The theme of the event was Music, Culture and Joy and raised awareness about Environmental Protection and Sustainability. This includes the promotion of sustainable practices to protect the environment and natural resources of Puerto Rico.
The island municipality of Aguadilla was honored in the parade.
Leading the parade was television personality, actress and author Giselle Blondet, holding the title of Grand Marshal. Born in New York City and raised in Puerto Rico, Blondet is recognized as one of the most iconic figures in Spanish-language television who began her career in Puerto Rico in the 1980s. She is now the co-host of Telemundo’s daytime show La Mesa Caliente.
The actress Justina Machado also participated in the parade, as Queen. Machado is best known for her role as Penélope Alvarez in the 2017 remake and hit television series “One Day at a Time“.
Marching as Godmother was singer, radio personality, and certified life coach, Judy Torres. Affectionately known as the “Queen of Freestyle,” Torres has had tremendous success singing the popular New York-born genre of music, freestyle, for over 35 years. Next to her as Godfather will be the film and television actor Ismael Cruz Córdova, who jumped onto the national scene playing the role of Mando in “Sesame Street.”
