National Press Agency – The “Fratelli Italia” party obtained over 26% of the total votes in the preliminary results of the legislative elections

NNA – Rome – The preliminary results of the legislative elections in Italy have been published, which correspond to what was declared in the polls: the right-wing coalition led by the “Brothers of Italy” ranked first with over 26 percent of the votes, the first in the its kind since the end of World War II. The center-left led by the Democratic Party has suffered a setback, even though it brings together 14 organizations of the center-left and the left. The Five Star Movement ranked third. The Brothers of Italy also appear in the Chamber and the Senate.

Preliminary results are half of the votes counted and indicate that the center-right coalition has obtained at least 114 seats and ensures the possibility of governing autonomously. The “Italian Brothers” have obtained 43 percent of the total votes of the center-right coalition, or more than 26 percent of the total votes of voters. And the Democratic Party obtained less than 20 percent, the lowest in its history.

The victory of the coalition guarantees control of both houses of parliament and the leader of the “Brothers of Italy” party, Georgia Meloni, becomes the biggest winner and may be able to get the prime minister.

The Italian Democratic Party admitted defeat in the elections and said it would become the largest opposition bloc in Parliament. As for Berlusconi’s Forza Italia, it got 8.2 per cent, the Lega 7 per cent and the Italian Viva, led by former prime minister Matteo Renci, 7 per cent.
Meloni announced that she will lead the next government and added in a speech to her supporters that her party “will be in the interest of all Italians if it is assigned to form the government.” “The situation in the country is difficult and needs everyone’s help. The Italian people have chosen us and we will not disappoint them,” she said.

Voter turnout reached 73%, up from 63% in 2018.
